Wake Up DC is a peer-led space. We are friends on the path, offering our time and energy to hold a simple,
gentle container for practice.
Ara
Ara helps organize gatherings, welcome new friends, and keep the
technical aspects of the community running smoothly.
Interests: philosophy, music, books, and rock climbing.
Christopher
Christopher came into the practice seeking ways to take care of his suffering and embrace his whole being
with a smile. He first practiced with Wake Up San Diego, was a friend of Deer Park, and volunteers for the
Action Wake Up Program. His
favorite teaching is the story of
Angulimala.
Sunil
Sunil has been practicing mindfulness in the Plum Village Tradition for over 10 years. In that time, he
has observed profound healing & transformation in his daily life. He is inspired to help build a world
where that kind of healing is available to everyone. To that end, he is a graduate sociology student at
George Mason University focusing his research on the importance of engaged community mindfulness practice
for social transformation. In his free time, he enjoys cycling, backpacking, and both growing and eating
delicious plant-based food.
Alyssa
Alyssa is a young person who has lived in the DMV for the last 20 years and found the practice of
meditation in 2023. While new to practicing, she is excited to deepen her understanding within the sangha.
Her interests are language learning, long walks, cafe hopping, and the culinary arts.
