Our Community

About Wake Up DC

We are a community of young practitioners (teens, 20s, and 30s) inspired by the teachings of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh.

What is Wake Up?

Wake Up is an international movement of young adults who want to help their society, which is overloaded with intolerance, discrimination, craving, anger, and despair.

We come together to practice mindfulness in order to take care of ourselves, to nourish happiness, and to contribute to building a healthier and more compassionate society.

A Global Movement

There are Wake Up groups all over the world, from London to Los Angeles, practicing the art of mindful living.

Our Practice

We practice to cultivate the energy of mindfulness, so we can bring it into our daily lives.

Sitting Meditation

Stopping and calming. We sit together to settle our minds and come back to the present moment.

Walking Meditation

We walk slowly and mindfully, kissing the earth with our feet, arriving in the here and now.

Dharma Sharing

We listen deeply to one another and speak from the heart, creating a space of trust and support.

Deep Relaxation

Resting is an important part of the practice. We allow our bodies and minds to heal through rest.

Who We Are For

Wake Up DC is for anyone in their teens, 20s, and 30s. You don't need to be Buddhist or have any prior meditation experience.

  • Beginners welcome
  • All backgrounds & identities
  • Inclusive & safe space

A Peer-Led Community

We are not teachers; we are friends on the path. We facilitate gatherings to support each other's practice.

While we are inspired by the Plum Village tradition, we are an independent grassroots group run by volunteers.

Join Our Community

The best way to get involved is to join our Discord server or mailing list. We'd love to practice with you.
